Wenger rates Almunia among Premier League's best

Arsenal boss Arsène Wenger has described goalkeeper Manuel Almunia as one of the finest currently playing in Premier League and believes the Spaniard does not receive the credit he deserves.

Almunia, signed by Wenger from Celta Vigo in 2004, has not conceded a goal in four successive games in all competitions and gone 389 minutes without conceding.

However, Wenger feels that his No.1 fails to be recognised as one of the most reliable shot-stoppers in England's top flight.

"Manuel does not get as much credit as he deserves," Wenger said ahead of Saturday's visit of Fulham.

"He has had a good season and had maybe one difficult game at Tottenham, and the fans are less forgiving for a game like that, than for any other game.

"I rate him very highly. We have two world-class goalkeepers, Łukasz Fabiański and him.

"I rate Almunia as highly as Petr Čech, Edwin van der Sar and Shay Given because if you keep clean sheets you cannot do much better."
