Van Nistelrooy wants to stay at Real Madrid

Thursday, May 28, 2009

Ruud van Nistelrooy insists he has no intention of quitting Real Madrid this summer and is hoping to be fit in time for next season.

Van Nistelrooy, who is recovering from knee surgery which has kept him out of action since last November, has been linked with a move to Turkish side Galatasaray, but the Dutch striker is determined to stay with Los Blancos.

"I have a year left on my contract and I'm very happy," he told the club's official website.

"I'm going to remain here, I have no doubts. I will recover and I return to play in the Santiago Bernabéu."

Now on the road to recovery, the 32-year-old hopes to be back in action by August but insists he will not rush his return.

He said: "I've spent the last six months recovering and the worst is now behind me.

"It has been a tough process but now I can say that I am almost ready to start running.

"I will start some gentle jogging next week.

"The pre-season starts more or less in mid-July and if all goes well I think I'll be able to join up with the group again in the first weeks of August."
