Thursday, July 16, 2009

Juventus completed the signing of Felipe Melo from Fiorentina on Wednesday, with Marco Marchionni moving in the opposite direction.

The 25-year-old has signed a five-year contract with the Bianconeri after undergoing a medical in Brazil.

A Juve statement read: "Felipe Melo is a Juventus player.

"The player, who is currently on holiday in Brazil, will join the team on July 22.

"He has been signed on a permanent transfer in a €25 million transfer fee to be payable over three years.

"Juventus and the player have signed a five-year contract."

The midfielder recently signed a contract extension with Fiorentina but a release clause was inserted, which Juve have triggered with their offer.

"I'm very happy to be here at Juventus and I can't wait to start work," Melo told the club's official website.

"I really believe in this squad and its new signings. We can compete with everyone and challenge in every competition, in Italy and in Europe."

Melo is Juventus' third major signing following the arrivals of Fabio Cannavaro and fellow Brazilian Diego.

Marchionni, meanwhile, will join the Viola for a fee of €4.5 million.
