Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has confirmed his interest in Klaas-Jan Huntelaar after VfB Stuttgart ended their interest in the Real Madrid striker.

Stuttgart looked all set to land the Dutchman after agreeing a transfer fee with Los Merengues worth around £15 million.

But now Huntelaar is heading back to Spain after turning down the offer from the German outfit.

Stuttgart general manager Horst Heldt told www.vfb.de: "We were willing to sign Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, because his qualities would be of great benefit for our team.

"But we are not willing to accept Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is putting us off."

Stuttgart's failure is now expected to signal a swoop from Spurs, after Redknapp confirmed that the 25-year-old was his top striking target.

Redknapp told The Sun: "The lad is a very good goalscorer and I'm still interested in him.

"I know of Stuttgart's involvement but I'm hoping we will still be able to do something.

"There's a lot of talk about who I may or may not be after but Huntelaar is the one I like."
