Tuesday, September 1, 2009

Barcelona have announced they have reached a deal with AS Monaco to sell Eiður Guðjohnsen to the French giants.

Guðjohnsen, who had a season remaining on his Barcelona contract, had long been linked with a move away from the Camp Nou after expressing his dissatisfaction over his peripheral role at the Catalan club.

The Iceland international has now penned a two-year contract deal at Stade Louis II and will link up with his new team-mates after the international break.

A statement on www.fcbarcelona.com said: "FC Barcelona and AS Monaco have reached an agreement for the transfer of Eiður Guðjohnsen to join the Ligue 1 outfit for €2 million.

"The Icelandic international has also agreed to the move and will joint he club on a two-year contract."

Guðjohnsen joined Barça from Chelsea in 2006, playing 72 league matches and helping the club to win the Champions League, the La Liga and the Copa del Rey.
