Friday, January 1, 2010

Bayern Munich have confirmed that Luca Toni will join AS Roma on loan until the end of the season.

The 32-year-old striker has been ushered to the exit door of the Bundesliga club after falling out with coach Louis van Gaal.

He asked the German giants for a January move and they have now granted his wish to link up with Roma.

Toni underwent a medical earlier this week and the deal has now been confirmed by Bayern.

"In a discussion Luca Toni asked the board of Bayern Munich to loan him out to AS Roma until the end of the season for personal reasons," read a statement on the club's official website.

"He wants, through regular games in Serie A, to achieve his personal goal of appearing for Italy at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

"The Bayern Munich board thanked Luca Toni for his contribution to the club’s success during his spell in Munich, particularly the league and cup double in 2008, and wished him all the best at AS Roma, lots of success and above all a place in the World Cup."
