Fabrizio Miccoli rejects Birmingham move

Thursday, June 17, 2010

Fabrizio Miccoli has decided it was best for him to remain with Palermo despite receiving a very tempting offer from Birmingham City.

The 30-year-old striker, who scored 19 times in Serie A last season, claimed to have received a four-year contract offer from Birmingham, which could have been his last big opportunity for a lucrative deal.

But a meeting with club president Maurizio Zamparini this week convinced him to remain with the Rosanero.

Miccoli told a press conference: "To start with I'd like to once again thank Birmingham City because to receive an offer of this nature despite having a torn cruciate ligament was important for me.

"I waited before talking because I wanted to evaluate it with my family. I have made up my mind to stay.

"It was enough for me to meet Maurizio Zamparini and look him in the eyes to decide to stay in pink and black.

"I asked Zamparini if he believed in me. He said 'yes' and that I am Palermo's captain.

"I have sent back the contract (Birmingham offered) because I want to stay here, in this team."
