Rafa Benítez on brink of joining Inter Milan

Tuesday, June 8, 2010

Inter Milan are expected to announce the appointment of Rafa Benítez as their new coach on Tuesday.

Speculation has been rife that Benítez is to be José Mourinho's successor since the Spaniard left Liverpool by mutual consent last Thursday.

When asked if Benítez could be proclaimed as the next Nerazzurri boss on Tuesday, Inter president Massimo Moratti replied: "Yes, I really think so. The deal is more or less done.

"It's not sealed yet because you don't sign something before hearing what you're signing, but we decisively targeted Benítez from the beginning and he is the person we consider most useful for the continuity of Inter at the same level."

Reports in Italy suggest Benítez will sign a three-year contract worth €5 million a season with the option of a third.

However, Moratti insists that media speculation is wide of the mark.

He added: "The wages the paper have been talking about is not a real figure. We only need to clear the final details to confirm the deal.

"It was a standard negotiation and also quite fast."
