Speculation had been rife that the 32-year-old would conclude his career in the United States for several months, with many reports linking him with a move to the Big Apple.

Deprived of game-time while with Barcelona and with no extension to Henry’s contract, which was due to expire in 2011, on the horizon, the transfer has finally been completed.

"This marks an exciting new chapter in my career and life," Henry told www.newyorkredbulls.com.

"It is an honour to play for the New York Red Bulls. I am fully aware of the team’s history and my sole goal during my time here is to help win the club its first championship.

"Knowing Red Bull’s significant commitment to soccer locally and internationally, I am confident that my teammates and I will succeed."

The former Arsenal captain is expected to make his debut on July 22 against Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur in the Barclays New York Challenge at Red Bull Arena.
