Last season's Premier League runners-up Manchester United defeated the reigning champions and FA Cup winners Chelsea 3-1 at Wembley in the Community Shield on Sunday afternoon.
Antonio Valencia scored the opening goal in the first half before substitute Javier Hernández doubled their advantage in a comical fashion, kicking the ball onto his own face before it drifted into the net.
Salomon Kalou pulled one back in the 83rd minute but Dimitar Berbatov rounded off the win in stoppage time by lobbing Chelsea goalkeeper Henrique Hilario.
