James Milner on brink of Man City move - Martin O'Neill

Saturday, August 7, 2010

Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill has revealed that James Milner could move to Manchester City as early as this weekend.

The England midfielder was left out of Villa's squad for the 0-0 pre-season friendly draw with Valencia on Friday night and O’Neill admitted that decision was taken with the mooted transfer in mind.

O'Neill said: "We didn't play him primarily because there could be something happening in terms of the transfer over the weekend or Monday or Tuesday.

"To my knowledge no fee has been agreed but talks are taking place involving our chief executive and the chairman.

"I think for everyone's benefit it is probably time to try and get something done.

"It happened two years ago with Gareth Barry when it was not resolved. I'm sure that no one wants to go down that route again."

According to a number of reports in the British media, City playmaker Stephen Ireland will be used as a makeweight in the deal.

The £8 million-rated midfielder will reportedly be included along with a £16 million cash offer to lure Villa into allowing Milner to sign for City.
