Newcastle United were handed a harsh lesson in their first game back in the Premier League with a 3-0 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Dimitar Berbatov broke the deadlock after 33 minutes when slammed a low right-footed shot past Steve Harper after being fed by Paul Scholes.
By the 41st minute it was 2-0 as Darren Fletcher turned inside the six-yard box before firing home past the helpless Harper.
Evergreen substitute Ryan Giggs then extended his remarkable record of scoring in every Premier League season when he volleyed home the third from Scholes' pass five minutes from time.
