Rafa Benítez blasts Liverpool directors

Rafa Benítez has launched a verbal attack on his former employers at Liverpool by saying that the club's directors "understand nothing about football".

The Spaniard endured a fractious relationship with the club's American co-owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett, frequently declaring his dissatisfaction with the lack of transfer funds at his disposal.

And Benítez, who left Anfield for Inter Milan in the summer, has now criticised the Reds' hierarchy for their lack of knowledge about the sport.

"My relationship with (Inter president) Massimo Moratti is really good," Benítez told the club's official website. "He is a man who knows football.

"He might get angry when the team doesn't win and this is normal, but at least you can talk about football with him.

"In the last year I was at Liverpool that simply did not happen. The directors that I had did not understand a thing about football, whereas with Moratti you can talk to him."
