Wesley Sneijder future in doubt after contract talks stall

Wednesday, September 22, 2010

Wesley Sneijder's agent has revealed that contract talks between the Dutch playmaker and Inter Milan have stalled, leading to speculation of a move back to Real Madrid.

The 26-year-old revealed earlier this month that he was hopeful of signing a contract extension that would keep him at the San Siro until 2015.

However, Sneijder's agent Søren Lerby reveals things haven't been going well.

"Financially we can't work out a deal. Negotiations have been pulled off and will only be restarted if Inter will show an opening," Lerby told Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf.

"Wesley was contacted by clubs across Europe after the World Cup final, but he was very happy in Italy at Inter.

"He felt he couldn't leave the club after just one season and the very flattering words of owner Massimo Moratti, who stated he would be the leader for the coming years.

"Inter promised Wesley a super salary but unfortunately, they couldn't keep their promise."

A departure has not been excluded by the agent, with a return to former coach José Mourinho - now in charge at the Bernabéu - an option.

Lerby added: "The club's attitude bothers him. And this is strengthened by the interest of Real Madrid.

"Everybody knows about the special relationship between José Mourinho and Wesley.

"He gets questions about a possible return via his mobile phone and text messages. Real wants to get serious about a transfer."
