Nani sabotages Cristiano Ronaldo's 'greatest goal'

Cristiano Ronaldo was denied his "best goals with the Portugal national team" last night thanks to a particularly brainless act of goal-poaching by Nani.

The Portugal captain believed he had opened the scoring against world champions Spain after this remarkable chip over Iker Casillas, which followed an audacious drag-back that sent Gerard Piqué sliding into oblivion.

However, as the ball was about to drop over the line, Nani needlessly headed in from what was deemed to be an offside position by the officials.

The goal was chalked off and Ronaldo was left trowing a tantrum.

"I don't understand, even a blind man could see it was a goal, the ball was half a metre into the net," Ronaldo said in Marca.

"I don't know if it's a coincidence or not but my best goals with the national team are being disallowed. I remember an overhead kick in the Bessa stadium which wasn't given."
