Juan Mata scored a late controversial winner as 10-man Valencia beat Espanyol 2-1 at the Mestalla.
Valencia took the lead through Aritz Aduriz on 29 minutes before the Barcelona-based side equalized in the 47th minute when Ricardo Costa headed in a cross from Espanyol's José Callejón into his own net.
Los Che then lost Aduriz to a harsh red card just after the hour mark, but they had the last laugh as Mata stole in at the far post to head home Costa's knockdown from an offside position to earn three vital points.
