Valencia have now won six of their last seven league games after claiming a 2-0 victory over neighbours Hércules at the Mestalla.
Aritz Aduriz opened the scoring two minutes before half-time when he controlled a Roberto Soldado pass and acrobatically bundled the ball past Juan Calatayud.
The hosts doubled the lead on 53 minutes as Tino Costa lifted a left-footed free-kick over the wall and into the net after Rodri fouled Soldado 25 yards from goal.
