Napoli remained six points adrift of Serie A leaders AC Milan with five games remaining after losing 2-1 at home to Udinese.
Gökhan Inler opened the scoring on 55 minutes with a long-range shot before ex-Napoli striker Germán Denis added a second five minutes later.
Edinson Cavani then had a penalty saved with three minutes to go after Maurizio Domizzi was sent off for Udinese.
Giuseppe Mascara scored a consolation deep into stoppage time, but it was too little too late.
