The 21-year-old Brazilian is said to have suffered from smoke inhalation, but his injuries are not believed to be serious.

The villa in Munich's Grünwald district was razed to the ground but Breno was alone at the time and was otherwise unhurt.

"We were alarmed at 12:30 am, by a small alarm having been told there was refuse on fire," Thomas Lix from Munich-Grünwald's voluntary fire brigade told Reuters TV.

"When we arrived here it was clear that it was more than just refuse, the whole building was on fire.

"We set out another alarm to call on more of our force and those from the neighbouring force. We were then only able to fight the fire from outside as we were then no longer able to enter the building.

"At first we were told that two people were still in the house but thankfully they turned up quite soon. One person was taken to hospital with smoke inhalation."

The cause of the fire is currently being investigated by Munich police and fire authorities.
