Betis were in front after 10 minutes through Jorge Molina's composed finish, but the visitors leveled 15 minutes later after Gonzalo Higuaín capped a run from near the halfway line with a drilled goal.
Cristiano Ronaldo made it 2-1 to Madrid seven minutes into the second half, but Jefferson Montero equalised for Betis three minutes later.
Despite all their hard work, the hosts were unable to take anything from the match, with Ronaldo claiming the winner for Madrid in the 73rd minute.
