The 25-year-old has been strongly linked with an exit this summer, and he confirmed the rumours after scoring his 121st and final goal for Los Merengues in a 4-2 win over Osasuna on Saturday.

Higuaín told a press conference: "I feel that my time has come to an end, I want a change of scenery. These seven years have been intense, hard and happy.

"I thought a lot about the decision. It's difficult, it wasn't easy, but I think I want to play for another club, new challenges.

"I've already made the decision last year, there were things and meetings, but the coach and my teammates convinced me to stay.

"I would like to go where they demonstrate that they are telling the truth when they say they want me. There are people who say I am a player of a certain class, but I don't know.

"I've made my decision, I wish the club and myself find the best possible solution."

Italian champions Juventus are the club who have long thought to be the front runners for Higuaín's signature.

He added: "I have not decided where I'm going to go. Juventus are a possibility but I do not know."
