Jovetić, who scored 40 goals from 134 appearances in five seasons with Fiorentina, was first linked with a move to England in 2012, with City, Chelsea, and Arsenal among those said to be keen on acquiring his services.

City refused to give up in their pursuit of the 23-year-old and those efforts have been rewarded with the capture of one of European football's hottest properties.

"Manchester City has wanted me for a long time, more than everyone else," Jovetić told the club's official website.

"They have a big project here and are always fighting for the Champions League and Premier League. This is the reason I came here.

"I also spoke with (Matija) Nastasić who tells me good things about Manchester and the players and everything here. He sent me messages every week telling me to come. Now I am here and look forward to playing with him every week."

Jovetić faces stiff competition to force his way into City's attack that includes fellow new arrival Álvaro Negredo, Sergio Agüero, and Edin Džeko.

"I'm a forward who is good in one-on-one situations," he added. "That's my best quality and I think my best years are ahead of me.

"I have played in a lot of systems. I can play as a striker, behind the striker or on the left. I think and I hope I can score between 15 and 20 goals in all competitions this season."
