Iker Casillas celebrates birth of baby boy Martín

Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas and sport journalist Sara Carbonero have become parents with the birth of their first child, a baby boy called Martín Casillas Carbonero.

Carbonero's pregnancy was announced last July before the couple's holiday in the Seychelles, and the birth of their son is one of the most anticipated Spanish births of the year.

Casillas canceled a trip to Qatar with the rest of the Madrid squad this week in order to be with his partner during the final days before giving birth.

On Friday morning, Carbonero was admitted to the Ruber International Clinic in Madrid where she later gave birth by Caesarean section.

Shortly after the birth, Casillas shared his joy on his official website, www.ikercasillasworld.com

He said: "I would like to share with you the most important and emotional moment of my life, my son's birth! After long months of waiting Martín is now here.

"He has weighed 3 kg 850 grams. Both he and his mother are perfectly and now resting. I'm extremely happy that finally this moment has arrived, and that everything went so well. With no doubt 2014 had a great start!"
