Max Allegri compares Gigi Buffon to Cristiano Ronaldo

Saturday, May 6, 2017

Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has been likened to Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo as the perfect role models for footballers and children across the world.

Buffon's excellent performances in goal for Juventus have put him in the race for the Ballon d'Or with the two usual candidates, Barcelona ace Lionel Messi and Ronaldo.

At 39 years old, Buffon is arguably in the best moment of his long career.

He kept his 60th clean sheet in his 100th Champions League game in a 2-0 win at AS Monaco on Wednesday night.

The Italy international has gone 621 minutes unbeaten in the Champions League, not even letting in one goal in the knock-out rounds.

He has also become the player with the most minutes played in Juventus history, beating even Bianconeri legend Giampiero Boniperti.

"Buffon and Ronaldo are two great role models," Juve coach Massimiliano Allegri said at a press conference. "Gigi even more than Ronaldo due to his age.

"They have great sincerity and professionalism, as well as great heads and sacrifice, which today's young players have little of because they think they're phenomena after 30 minutes.

"It takes great qualities and a great head to become a phenomenon."
