Villarreal moved ahead of champions Real Madrid and into second place in La Liga with a 2-1 win at bottom side Recreativo Huelva.

Spain international Santi Cazorla opened the scoring in the 26th minute with a deflected long shot, and Ariel Ibagaza swung in the second from a free-kick outside the area a minute before half-time.

The hosts grabbed an 83rd-minute consolation when Adrián Colunga buried from the penalty spot after Marco Rubén had been fouled by Pascal Cygan.

The win moved the Yellow Submarines to 28 points and trails leaders Barcelona by four.
