Manchester United have completed the surprise signing of Stoke defender Ritchie De Laet, who has never made a first-team appearance for the Potters.
The 20-year-old Belgian moved to Old Trafford after both clubs have agreed a performance-related payment package for the player.
"They were aware of Ritchie," said Potters boss Tony Pulis. "You can’t turn down the chance to go to a club like that."
The versatile defender joined Stoke from United’s feeder club Royal Antwerp in a £100,000 deal in August 2007 and spent the early part of the season on loan at Wrexham.
United have a good working arrangement with Antwerp, who often taking their young players on loan so that their development can be aided with first team experience.
Rising stars such as Jonny Evans, Darron Gibson, Danny Simpson, and Tottenham's temporary striker Frazier Campbell have all spent at least one loan spell at the Belgian club.
