FA Cup: Chelsea reach quarterfinals

Sunday, February 15, 2009

Chelsea came from behind to beat Watford 3-1 as they made a positive start to life without Luiz Felipe Scolari.

New manager Guus Hiddink, sitting alongside owner Roman Abramovich in the stands, saw the Hornets took a surprise lead in the 69th minute when substitute Tamás Priskin broke away to loft the ball over the onrushing Petr Čech.

But the lead lasted barely five minutes as Nicolas Anelka scored with a close range overhead kick from Frank Lampard's corner.

Two minutes later, the France international met a cross from Ashley Cole to guide a header inside the near post.

Čech pulled off a fine stop to deny what would have been a Watford equaliser by Jobi McAnuff in stoppage time before the Blues broke upfield and Anelka found space in the box to turn in his hat-trick goal.
