John Terry wary of Shevchenko's revenge

Monday, March 30, 2009

John Terry believes his ex-Chelsea team-mate Andriy Shevchenko will feel he has "something to prove" to the Blues and the whole of England when he confronts the Three Lions at Wembley on Wednesday.

The Ukrainian ace joined Chelsea from AC Milan for £31 million in 2006 but managed just nine league goals in two years at Stamford Bridge in return for his £130,000-a-week salary.

However, England skipper Terry remains wary of the threat the ex-Dynamo Kiev star will pose in midweek.

He said: "Things didn’t go too well for him at Chelsea but he is a quality player and great finisher.

"When you forget about Sheva, he pops up with a goal. He has got a first class touch and a great finish. We need to be very aware of him.

"He is a big player in Ukraine and, when he goes back there, he always feels the pressure is on him and he wants to do well.

"So he will be coming here with two reasons to do well – to prove something to Chelsea and his country."

Terry has kept in touch with Shevchenko but he revealed: "I sent him a text message last Friday... but he hasn’t replied."
