For the first time all season Barcelona failed to score at the Camp Nou as they were held 0-0 by Chelsea in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final.

Chelsea had only one clear-cut opportunity all night when Didier Drogba seized on a woeful Rafael Márquez backpass late in the first half. However, on this occasion the Ivorian's composure deserted him and he was denied by a fantastic double save from Víctor Valdés.

The hosts upped the tempo and Petr Čech had to be at his best to keep Samuel Eto'o's shot out in the 70th minute after the Barcelona striker had shaken off Alex to get a clear chance from close-range.

As the match went into stoppage time, teenage substitute Bojan Krkić was golden opportunities to snatch a late winner for the Catalans but headed a clear chance over from a couple of yards.

Aliaksandr Hleb could still have given his team the advantage after that as he broke down the left but denied by a sprawling stop from the impressive Čech.
