Manchester United will offer starlet Federico Macheda a five-year deal when he turns 18 in August, according to the player’s agent.

Macheda, who earns just £65,000 a year, has twice come off the bench to produce match winning performances and is considered to be one of Europe's top talents.

It is understood that Sir Alex Ferguson has been so impressed by Macheda that he will do everything he can to keep the 17-year-old at Old Trafford for a number of years.

"I think Manchester will ask us to sign a five-year deal," Macheda's agent Giovanni Bia told Sky Italia. "That would be logical because it makes no sense to lose a lad at 21.

"We haven't talked about figures. When he's 18 we'll talk again"
