Bolivia celebrated their first win over Argentina in 12 years in fashionable style - thumping the two-time World Cup winners 6-1 at high altitude in La Paz.

Most of the Argentine squad had never played in the Bolivian capital, which is 3,600 metres above sea level, and they arrived only two hours before kickoff.

Marcelo Martins opened the scoring for Bolivia on 11 minutes, but Argentina hit back in the 24th minute when Lucho González equalised.

Bolivia showed no mercy for the rest of the match, however.

Joaquín Botero scored from the penalty spot in the 33rd minute, then as the first half ticked down, he cut in from the left and delivered a cross that Alex da Rosa buried with a header.

The home side weren't done there and Botero headed home the fourth nine minutes after the break.

Things went from bad to worse for the Argentines as they were forced to play the final 26 minutes with only 10 men after Ángel Di María saw red.

Botero then completed his hat-trick a minute later before Didi Torrico scored from long distance to add gloss to the final scoreline.
