Wednesday, May 27, 2009

Bayern Munich have reached an agreement with Germany and VfB Stuttgart striker Mario Gómez which will see him transferred to Allianz Arena.

The 23-year-old will move for around €30 million as soon as the Bundesliga clubs can agree on the technicalities of the deal and the player.

"Bayern Munich are delighted that Mario Gómez has decided to join our club," Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge told the club's website.

"Mario is a top class striker that has scored over twenty goals in each of the last three seasons. He has proven to be one of the best strikers in the Bundesliga.

"We are now looking forward to having him on our team."

Gómez admits he only needed two days to make the decision despite receiving offers from Italy and England.

He said. "I am moving because I want to take the next step in my career and Bayern are the German club who can hold their own in Europe.

"I had offers from Italy, England and Bayern and I only needed two days to decide. I saw no need and had no desire to move abroad

"Bayern have been interested in me for the last two years, even after a bad European Championship, and this is also why I didn't go abroad."
