No 'hair dryer' treatment for Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo was lucky to escape Sir Alex Ferguson's infamous hair dryer treatment after the Manchester United boss claimed he had "no problem" with the player's show of dissent.

The 24-year-old winger was replaced by Paul Scholes an hour into Sunday's 2-0 win over Manchester City and he made no attempt to disguise his fury at being subbed.

He greeted his substitution by throwing a training top to the ground before mouthing his disgust while sat on the bench. After the match he was off home within 15 minutes.

"He wanted to stay on," Ferguson told Sky Sports 1. "It's a simple reason.

"He's such a great athlete but don't forget he's run his socks off on Tuesday (against Arsenal).

"I've got Wednesday's game against Wigan and Saturday against Arsenal to think about. I've got to look at how we can get through these games and keep the players as fresh as I can.

"He's in great form but I've got to look at the bigger picture."
