Steven Gerrard bagged a brace as Liverpool climbed back to the Premier League summit with a 3-0 victory away to West Ham.

Gerrard gave his side the perfect start with just 76 seconds gone when he burst clear of the Hammers defence to collect Fernando Torres' slide-rule pass and rounded Robert Green before finishing into an empty net.

Luís Boa Morte was furious as he was not awarded a free-kick on 37 minutes and, in his frustration, raced back only to tug Torres' shirt in the box.

Green brilliantly saved Gerrard's initial spot-kick but the midfielder followed up to slide home the loose ball.

David di Michele should have pulled a goal back when he seized on a mistake by Jamie Carragher, but he got his feet tangled up as he tried to take the ball around Reina.

It was a shocking miss and referee Alan Wiley rubbed salt in the wound by booking the Italian for diving.

Substitute Ryan Babel completed the scoring six minutes from time as he fired home at the second attempt after his header from Dirk Kuyt's cross was initially saved by Green.
