Edwin van der Sar set to retire at end of next season

Tuesday, June 30, 2009

Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar will retire from football at the end of the 2009/10 season.

According to a report in The Sun, the former Ajax, Juventus and Fulham custodian will reveal his plans to Red Devils manager Sir Alex Ferguson when he returns to pre-season training.

The 38-year-old retired from international football last summer in order to concentrate on his club career.

A United source told the paper: "Edwin has reviewed his options after each season and thinks this could be his last year.

"He is determined to go out at the top and is raring to go next season."
