Juventus confirm Ciro Ferrara appointment

Sunday, June 7, 2009

Juventus confirmed on Friday the appointment of Ciro Ferrara as the club's new coach.

The 42-year-old Italian had been in temporary charge of Juve for the final two weeks of the season after Claudio Ranieri’s dismissal.

Under Ferrara, Juve beat Siena 3-0 and won 2-0 against Lazio to ensure the club secured automatic qualification for next season's Champions League.

The former defender and youth sector co-ordinator has now been asked to take up the reins on a permanent basis and has signed a two-year deal with the Turin giants.

"Ferrara, who is by now a founding column at Juventus, has the confidence of the directors and made himself available for this new and exciting challenge," read a statement on Juve's official website.

"He will be the coach of a team where he won everything as a player and remained faithful, leading the club’s youth sector for the last three years."

Ferrara played for Juventus from 1994-2005, winning five Scudetti, the Champions League, Intercontinental Cup, Coppa Italia and four Italian SuperCoppa.
