Juventus confirmed on Tuesday that Fabio Cannavaro will return to Turin from Real Madrid on July 1.

Cannavaro's contract with the Spanish gaints runs out at the end of June and he has signed a one-year deal with the Bianconeri.

"Juventus have deposited the contract of Fabio Cannavaro that will be effective from July 1, 2009 to June 30, 2010," a club statement reads.

The switch should come as no surprise with the defender admitting last month that he would love to return to the club despite the unrest it would cause amongst Juve supporters.

Many fans were angry by Cannavaro's departure for Real in 2006 when they were demoted to Serie B for match-fixing, while other top players such as Alessandro Del Piero and Gianluigi Buffon stayed with the club for their season in the second tier.

However, the Italy captain is confident he can win over the Juve faithful.

He said: "I am happy to return to Turin and to have the chance to wear the Juve shirt again.

"I'm disappointed that some fans have some bitter feelings after the glorious seasons we enjoyed together.

"However, I am convinced that I can win them over with professionalism and passion in this new adventure."
