Friday, July 3, 2009

Arsenal have announced that promising teenager Jack Wilshere has signed a new long-term contract with the club.

At Arsenal since he was nine years old, the Hertfordshire-born Wilshere is one of the club's most exciting young prospects.

Wilshere signed professional terms when he turned 17 in January and became the youngest player to represent the Gunners in both the league and in European competition when he made his first-team breakthrough last season.

"It’s such great news that Jack has signed a new long-term contract," Arsenal boss Arsène Wenger told www.arsenal.com.

"He made great progress last season, playing at Under-18s, reserves and first-team level and we all witnessed what a great young talent he is.

"At still 17 years of age, the potential is huge for Jack and we’re all delighted that he has committed his long-term future to Arsenal."
