Bayern Munich accept José Bosingwa defeat

Monday, July 20, 2009

Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has announced that the club have decided not to pursue their interest in Chelsea defender José Bosingwa.

Bayern have been chasing the Portugal international for more than a month.

However, despite ongoing talks reaching an advanced stage earlier this month, the Bundesliga giants have now made it clear that they won't sign the right-back after all.

Rummenigge told German newspaper Bild: "We're not done yet on the transfer market, as we still want to add a right-back to our squad.

"However, José Bosingwa is no longer one of the candidates to join us.

"We were keen to sign him this summer, but Chelsea simply refuse to let go of him.

"Therefore, we have to accept that he stays at Chelsea and set our sights to another right-back."
