Premier League: Hull 1-5 Tottenham

Thursday, August 20, 2009

Tottenham Hotspur moved to the top of the Premier League after demolishing Hull City 5-1 at the KC Stadium.

Jermain Defoe gave the visitors an early lead with a clinical finish on 10 minutes after being played through by Tom Huddlestone.

The night got worse for Hull four minutes later as Wilson Palacios scored his first goal in England.

Hull pegged back the deficit on 25 minutes when Stephen Hunt curled in a free-kick from close to the left-hand touchline and it somehow eluded everyone before nestling in the far corner of the net.

Defoe restored the two-goal advantage shortly before the break, latching onto Robbie Keane's quickly-taken free-kick before firing an unstoppable right-footed.

Keane underlined Spurs' supremacy as he rose to head in Aaron Lennon's pinpoint cross after a quick break from the visitors.

Defoe put the icing on the cake when he played a clever one-two with Lennon and rifled the ball home in the final seconds.
