Atlético Madrid moved a step closer to the group stages of the Champions League after an entertaining 3-2 win over Panathinaikos in Athens.
Maxi Rodríguez fired the visitors in front on 36 minutes, but Panathinaikos drew level through Dimitris Salpigidis two minutes after the restart.
Diego Forlán put Atlético ahead again on 63 minutes and his strike partner Sergio Agüero extended the advantage seven minutes later.
Substitute Sebastián Leto closed the gap on 74 minutes to keep the Greeks in touch for the away leg.
