Atlético Madrid sign Sergio Asenjo from Valladolid

Thursday, July 9, 2009

Atlético Madrid have completed the signing of Sergio Asenjo from Real Valladolid for a fee believed to be in the region of €5 million.

The highly-rated goalkeeper, who was linked with the likes of Barcelona and Manchester United in the past, has penned a four-year contract with the Rojiblancos.

As part of the deal that sees the 20-year-old move to the Spanish capital, Brazilian striker Diego Costa will play at Valladolid next season.

Asenjo will now look to make the No 1 his own with the Colchoneros after the departure of goalkeepers Leo Franco to Galatasaray and Grégory Coupet to Paris St Germain earlier this summer.

The Spain Under-21 international will be presented at the Vicente Calderón on Monday at 1pm after completing a medical with the club.
