La Liga: Real Madrid 3-2 La Coruña

Sunday, August 30, 2009

Cristiano Ronaldo began his Real Madrid career with a goal in a 3-2 win over Deportivo La Coruña in the opening game of the new La Liga season.

The home side took the lead after 26 minutes as Raúl was on hand to tap in the rebound after Karim Benzema had seen his shot saved by Depor keeper Daniel Aranzubia.

Depor were level just four minutes later when Riki was left unmarked to head Juca's deep cross past Iker Casillas.

But parity was short-lived as Ronaldo slammed home his spot-kick on 35 minutes after Aranzubia had brought down Raul inside the box.

The visitors were back on level terms immediately after the restart as Juan Carlos Valerón controlled Andrés Guardado's cross on the edge of the area before drilling a superb shot low past Casillas.

Real struck the winner on the hour mark when Lassana Diarra rounded Juca and struck a powerful shot into the far corner.
