Kaká than sealed the victory victory with a 73rd-minute penalty after Ángel López was adjudged to have handled Marcelo's cross.
Villarreal had been reduced to 10 men by the time of that goal after Gonzalo Rodríguez had been sent off in 35th minute for a dangerous kick that hit Kaká in the chest.
