Sevilla were unable to close the gap to Real Madrid after being held to a 0-0 draw at home by 10-man Espanyol.
The hosts dominated from the outset and Espanyol had goalkeeper Carlos Kameni to thank for a number of key saves which kept the visitors on level terms at the break.
After Espanyol's Nicolás Pareja was sent off for a second bookable offence just before the hour mark, Sevilla looked even more dominant but could not find the net as Kameni pulled off several more crucial saves.
