Champions League Group H: Arsenal 2-0 Standard Liège

Wednesday, November 25, 2009

Arsenal claimed their place in the Champions League last 16 and also sealed top spot in Group H after a comfortable 2-0 home win over Standard Liège.

After dominating possession, the Gunners broke the deadlock in the 35th minute as Samir Nasri capitalised on a slip from Landry Mulemo, dispatching expertly with his right foot past goalkeeper Sinan Bolat.

And the lead was doubled in first-half stoppage-time when Brazilian midfielder Denilson's effort from long range swerved wickedly past Bolat.

The visitors finished the match with 10 men when Mehdi Carcela-Gonzalez was shown a straight red card for a butt on Cesc Fàbregas.
