Real Madrid returned to winning ways and are now just a point adrift of Barcelona at the top of the table with a 2-0 success over city neighbours Getafe.
They were on the back foot early on when defender Raúl Albiol was shown a straight red card for pulling Roberto Soldado down on the edge of the area.
The hosts rallied, though, and Argentine frontman Gonzalo HiguaÃn put the hosts ahead in the 53rd minute, chesting down Marcelo's pass from the left and taking his time before shooting.
HiguaÃn scored his second three minutes later, running on to Karim Benzema's pass and shooting low past goalkeeper Oscar Ustari.
