Goran Pandev released by Lazio after successful legal battle

Friday, December 25, 2009

Lazio have been ordered to release Goran Pandev from his contract by the Lega Calcio after the striker was frozen out by the club.

Pandev, who scored 14 goals for Lazio last season, has been trying to terminate his contract with the Biancocelesti since the summer and has not played a single game for them this term and has at times been made to train apart from the first team.

But Pandev's lawyer Mattias Grassani has now confirmed that his client can leave on a free transfer in January.

"Our application has been accepted and Pandev has rescinded his contract," Grassani told reporters.

"Lazio have been ordered to play the player €160,000 in compensation as well as legal costs. We received a fax from the Lega and it has confirmed the rescission with immediate effect.

"Pandev can now negotiate with any club he likes, but that will be dealt with through the agents. In any case, he is no longer tied to Lazio."

A number of Serie A's top clubs, including Inter Milan and Juventus, are reported to be keen on signing the Macedonian, who is not cup-tied for European competition, next month.

"I am so very happy, it is the end of a nightmare," Pandev added. "It is something I never expected and would not want to go through again.

"I’m sorry for Lazio, but on the other hand I had to get away from a person who hurt me very much.

"I remain a Lazio supporter and I'm sorry for their supporters, even if I'm happy to leave.

"My future? I'd like to stay here in Italy."
