FA Cup: Scunthorpe 2-4 Man City

Monday, January 25, 2010

Manchester City beat Scunthorpe United 4-2 at Glanford Park with Robinho rounding off the victory before departing on a likely loan move to Brazilian side Santos.

It was Robinho that found Martin Petrov on the right edge of Scunthorpe's box, where the winger took aim before unleashing a jackhammer of a left foot strike that screamed past Joe Murphy at his near post.

Paul Hayes volleyed a 29th-minute equaliser for second-tier Scunthorpe, but Nedum Onuoha restored City's lead at the end of the first half with a neat finish from Stephen Ireland's lofted pass.

Sylvinho extended the lead in the 57th minute when unleashing a left-foot strike from 30 yards into the top of the net.

Scunthorpe found renewed hope in the 69th minute when Cliff Byrne stabbed home from close range, but Robinho sealed the win by firing the ball into the roof of the net from inside the area after being put through by Petrov six minutes from time.

The Brazilian was substituted almost immediately and made a point of shaking hands with each member of the City bench with his brief career at Eastlands seemingly over.
