Giggs backs Rooney to become Man United record-breaker

Sunday, March 21, 2010

Ryan Giggs has urged team-mate Wayne Rooney to stay with Manchester United for the rest of his career and become a record-breaker just like him.

Rooney has been in the form of his life this campaign, scoring 32 times in all competitions as he looks to fire his team to a Treble-winning season.

And Giggs, who holds United’s all-time appearance record of 828 games, believes Rooney will continue to be a key player for the club long into the future.

The Welshman told News of the World: "Wayne is at the right place. He's got the best manager and at United you will always be competing for trophies, which is what you want as a footballer.

"We have great players at United and he loves being here. I can see him staying.

"If Wayne plays here, keeps fit and keeps going for the next ten years, then he will break every record.

"He will break my appearance record and he will break Bobby Charlton’s goal-scoring record of 249 goals. I hope that is something he can do."
